Why Boom Logic for Accounting Firms

Your Clients Trust You With Everything. Your IT Should Earn the Same Trust.

A breach at an accounting firm is an identity-theft event for every client on the books, and a server failure on April 10 is a missed deadline for all of them at once. We remove both risks by running the whole environment—security, systems, and support—under one accountable team.

Safeguards Rule by Design

Multi-factor authentication, encryption, access controls, and continuous monitoring mapped to the FTC Safeguards Rule (16 CFR Part 314) and IRS Publication 4557—with the documentation to prove it.

Built for Busy Season

Proactive monitoring, patching outside filing windows, and a 30-minute incident acknowledgment backed by service credits—so partners and staff keep working from January through October 15.

Infrastructure We Operate

Your tax software, client files, and practice-management platform run on systems we operate, with a presence in the world’s top-rated data centers—One Wilshire and Equinix.

FTC Safeguards Rule & IRS Publication 4557

Your WISP, Written—and Evidenced.

The FTC Safeguards Rule treats tax preparers and accounting firms as financial institutions. It requires a qualified individual, a written risk assessment, multi-factor authentication, encryption, monitoring, an incident-response plan, and a Written Information Security Plan—and the IRS asks every PTIN holder to confirm they have one. We implement the controls and hand you the documentation.

Common Questions

Accounting Firm IT, Answered.

What should managed IT services for accounting firms include?
A complete plan covers IT support for partners, staff, and seasonal preparers; 24/7 security monitoring and response; email and client-portal protection; encrypted backups with tested recovery; secure cloud hosting for tax and accounting software; and the Written Information Security Plan, risk assessment, and reporting the FTC Safeguards Rule requires—all under one flat-rate agreement. See SOC as a Service for how around-the-clock monitoring works.
Does the FTC Safeguards Rule apply to CPA and tax preparation firms?
Yes. The Safeguards Rule (16 CFR Part 314) applies to non-bank financial institutions under FTC jurisdiction, and the FTC and IRS both treat tax preparers and accounting firms that handle client financial data as covered. The rule requires a designated qualified individual, a written risk assessment, access controls, encryption, multi-factor authentication, monitoring or periodic testing, staff training, service-provider oversight, a written incident-response plan, and a Written Information Security Plan.
What is a Written Information Security Plan (WISP), and do we need one?
A WISP is the written document that describes how your firm protects client data: who is responsible, what systems hold the data, which controls protect it, and what happens after an incident. The FTC Safeguards Rule requires one, IRS Publication 4557 explains it for tax professionals, and PTIN renewal asks preparers to confirm they have it. We draft, maintain, and evidence yours. Read what a WISP has to contain.
How do you keep our firm online during tax season?
We schedule patching and changes outside your filing windows, monitor every endpoint and server around the clock, and back up tax files and workpapers with tested recovery. Incidents are acknowledged within 30 minutes and contained within 1 hour, backed by service credits—so a problem on April 10 is handled before it costs a deadline.
Which accounting and tax software do you support?
We support the platforms firms rely on every day—QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, CCH Axcess, the Thomson Reuters CS Suite, Lacerte and ProSeries, Drake Tax, Karbon, and Bill.com—alongside Microsoft 365. We keep them patched, backed up, and available under one support relationship, and we can host them on infrastructure we operate.
Can you help us answer client security questionnaires and cyber-insurance renewals?
Yes. We implement the controls insurers and clients ask about—MFA, endpoint detection and response, tested backups, a documented incident-response plan, and a current WISP—and provide the evidence you need to complete the questionnaire accurately. See Compliance as a Service.
Do you offer co-managed IT for firms with an in-house IT team?
Yes. Multi-office and regional firms with internal IT staff use Boom Logic as a co-managed partner—24/7 SOC coverage, helpdesk overflow through busy season, patching, and project work alongside your team, with defined escalation paths and shared documentation. See co-managed IT.
Do you offer penetration testing for accounting firms?
Yes. The Safeguards Rule expects either continuous monitoring or annual penetration testing with periodic vulnerability assessments. We run external penetration tests and phishing simulations scoped to accounting and tax firms, and qualifying firms with 25 or more staff/endpoints receive one complimentary with their free security assessment under a signed rules-of-engagement agreement. See penetration testing.
Do you serve accounting firms throughout Los Angeles?
Yes. We support firms from Downtown LA and Century City to Pasadena, the Valley, and the South Bay, on-site and remote, from our Eagle Rock headquarters. See managed IT services in Los Angeles for service areas and response coverage.
